Bailouts and Bashings

Bailouts and Bashings
Sometimes I wonder if it is in our human nature to kick a guy while he is down. Or does it make us look fashionable, smart, or clued in to give a good bashing. I’ve been following the bailouts lately and found a bit of bashing going on with the automakers and a resounding silence regarding the leadership in the banking industry.

Campbell Brown beat me to the punch with her insightful blog entry the other day, have a look at this, http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/12/campbell.brown.automakers/index.html

I love cars, engines, and anything that you can drive, fly, or slide on. This biases my feelings about the auto industry and I am certainly on the side of the auto industry even if they are not perfect and haven’t always made the most intelligent decisions. I support the US and Canada auto industry even if their products are often not as high quality or not as cool looking as the German and Japanese products. It is because it is ours and it supports hundreds of thousands and even millions of Americans. I think we can use this experience to make wiser decisions and push the American auto industry to step up its game and to also protect itself in much the same vein as the Japanese or Germans.

One point of logic that hopefully will appeal to my colleagues and friends reading this blog, this industry isn’t just about cars, it is a reflection of the American and Canadian people creating a corporate community around this compelling industry that has fascinated just about everyone of us. This industry touches finance, computers, communications, design, and hundreds of other focus areas that our fellow Americans and Canadians have dedicated their lives to. Let’s have some compassion in this time of need look past the Executives blundering to the Congress and remember that this industry is about all the people just like you and me who have made it happen through the years.

This is an atypical blog for me as it is more of a heartfelt commentary of how we treat each other and plea for compassion.
