Blogs I Read Every Day and Why

Blogs I Read Every Day and Why
Blogs are becoming one of my major news sources. With my interest in ERP, SFA, CRM, Business Process automation , enterprise computing, marketing, business intelligence, business analysis, finance, engine technology, Calgary, Silicon Valley, startups, Web 2.0, data warehousing, business intelligence, military, and etc. I have a few Blogs that I go for the straight goods. Here are the ones that have my attention these days (in no particular order):

kempton.ideasrevolution.com – Kempton Lam, one of the most interesting people I’ve met in a long time. Kempton’s range of interest and depth of experience makes for a great read, and he is a daily Blogger.

Patrick Lor – Patrick is also a daily Blogger and his experience in the computing world along with his other interests make for a great read. I like also that he lives in Calgary and at one time provided products and services to us through his company, iStockphoto

Billions With Zero Knowledge – Austin Hill is a very energetic and creative person that I met at the first Calgary BarCamp. Austin has a very entertaining and thought provoking Blog that he writes from his offices in Montreal. Montreal is one of my favorite cities, largely due to the fact that my wife and two of our children are from the city.

PGreenblog – Paul Greenberg is a wealth of enterprise computing information. I stumbled across his Blog as a person in this same space (I certainly do not profess to be as knowledgeable or plugged in as Paul!) I like his no-nonsense writing style.

Boing Boing: A Directory of Wonderful Things – The title says it all. This is just a nice little diversion in the wake of 98% of the day being all business. It is very reminiscent of Kevin Kelly’s Cool Tools. Updated daily.

Kevin Kelly -- Cool Tools – From the guy who wrote the “Whole Earth Catalog”. I loved that book when I was a kid, it was the precursor of the internet.

Cambrian House, Home of Crowdsourcing – I know the two guys that started the Business, Mike Sikorsky (calls himself MJ these days) and Rob Shaw. These guys are an unstoppable duo and I love to see that they are a force to be listened to in the crowdsourcing space.

Online Marketing Blog by FoundPagesFred Yee’s company Blog. I’ve known Fred for many years when I worked at Valmet and DATAP and we bumped into each other at the Calgary BarCamp. His company has a very good service for web-based business models.

Freakonomics Blog – Great book, great Blog and it is updated daily. This is a hugely successful Blog with multiple comments and great insightful writing, just like the book. These guys are smart and practical.

Wikinomics – Don Tapscott is a powerful author. I attended his talk that was provided to us by Cambrian House and I will continue to read what he and his group have to say.

KR Connect – Kevin Roberts was recommended to me by Kempton’s Blog and I go back every day to read and listen to what he has to say. Here is a guy that runs one of the biggest advertising houses in the world and takes time to reach out and share his insight. It is a great source of ideas and business perspective. Before anyone launches a new advertising or marketing campaign, I highly recommend you spend some time on this Blog. Updated daily.

Jim Louderback - What's New Now – I’ve been reading Jim’s “What’s New” email for years. Great stuff, inside information, always interesting.

First Coffee – David Sims is a great Blogger and he writes about my chosen business focus. He writes every day and he is easy to read. He also listens to good tunes while he is working. He is the only pro Blogger that I read at the moment. Recommended reading from one of my other favorite Bloggers, Paul Greenberg.

Fred - Venturing Again – Fred Yee has his own personal Blog. After many years in the business with lots of success he has much to share, very practical guy, easy to read. Updated daily or pretty close to it.

Guy Kawasaki - How to Change the World – Guy Kawasaki is a very interesting guy and I like to read his Blog. He has “been there done that” in pretty much every part of the computing and internet business. Easy to read and a bit irreverent at times. I also found out that he is contact of Patrick Lor and the Cambrian House people, funny how the world feels small sometimes.

Tony Perkin's GoingOn Blog | AlwaysOn – Tony used to own the Red Herring magazine and has lots of interesting things to say. It has been a while since he has posted.

Kempton's Gravatar Hi Tom,

Thanks for your kind words and your interest in my blog. Looks like we read some of the same blogs. And I will check out your other recommendations when I have time.
